Dare To Dream in 2024

It’s a normal habit to set goals in January – it’s a new year, the holiday crazies have passed, and the winter may allow for more project work and planning. Experts say, taking that first step, making smaller, attainable goals, is the key to success. Sometimes that first step is the hardest. Give yourself the permission to dream. Say to yourself, “What if?”

If your goal is to prepare for your next career advancement or master/improve skills that will help you in your current position, higher education might be on your list. That can be signing up for specific industry learning conferences as well as heading back to school.

Today we chatted with Patrick Horning, National Tribal Strategic Alliance Executive, University of Phoenix (UOPX) about options for folks who work in the gaming and hospitality industry. If you are a VENDOR to the industry, this applies to you as well!

First to know is that University of Phoenix offers many programs – it’s not just about attaining a degree. There are courses, certificate programs and more to meet re-skill and up-skill goals.

Second, if you are connected with a Tribal organization, by being a team member or a vendor, you are eligible to work with their specialty Tribal operations team and get additional tuition discounts!

Finally, UOPX works very closely with Tribal organizations to create and nurture the Tribe’s higher education goals and to help overcome obstacles. In this interview, you can hear about their pilot program that was launched last year to get more Tribal students into higher education. Your Tribal organization might already have a plan set up with UOPX!

Patrick will be the first person to say that his team isn’t driven by enrollments; the goal of his team is to build a sustainable and successful higher education program with Tribal organizations and see individuals succeed. Drop him a line at Patrick.Horning@phoenix.edu if you are ready to take that first step.

It can be a big deal just to allow ourselves to explore what could be in our minds before we talk ourselves out of it. Give yourself that opportunity.

Sincerely,

Christine Faria
