Jamul Casino Honors Black History Month With Community Sponsorship, Special Performance and More

JAMUL, CA (February 12, 2024) – In honor of Black History Month, Jamul Casino will celebrate the proud achievements of the Black community with multiple events and community-wide initiatives throughout the month of February. Helming Jamul Casino, President and General Manager Mary Cheeks, encourages guests to support the overall efforts to expand inclusivity and celebrate the casino’s diverse community and leadership team.

An industry trailblazer and influential Black leader in hospitality and beyond, Cheeks brings more than 30 years of experience to the property as a senior level leader in various gaming markets. During her tenure, Jamul Casino underwent a complete transformation with the recruitment of a world-class management team, enhancing existing team member skills and hiring additional top tier talent emphasizing the importance of diversity. Cheeks has consistently worked alongside the Jamul community to ensure the welcoming presence of the casino and fulfillment of social responsibilities.

“Our commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse environment goes beyond the casino but also in our contributions to community organizations,” says Cheeks. “Black History Month not only gives us the opportunity to reflect and celebrate, but also serves as a powerful reminder that we must continue to work together toward justice and equality.”

In February, Jamul Casino will donate $10,000 to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) San Diego chapter during a special check presentation ceremony. As the nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization, the NAACP San Diego chapter is dedicated to advocating for the local community, leading equal opportunity grassroot campaigns and conducting voter mobilization, aligning with Jamul Casino’s vision for the future.

In addition, Jamul Casino will continue their ongoing support and sponsorship of Many Shades of Pink, a local organization that supports, empowers and provides high-quality breast health resources to women of color and underserved communities. This month, Jamul Casino will also welcome back the popular musical celebration “Motown Memories.” The tribute performance spotlights celebrated soul music artists including The Supremes, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Steve Wonder, The Jackson 5 and many more. The event is set to take place at The Rooftop.
