Secretary Haaland to Travel to Washington to Celebrate Reintroduction of Sockeye Salmon in the Yakama River Basin, Announce New Funding from President’s Investing in America Agenda

WASHINGTON (July 16, 2024) — On Wednesday, July 24, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland will travel to the Yakama Nation in Washington where she will join state, local and Tribal leaders to celebrate the reintroduction of sockeye salmon into the Yakima River Basin. While in Washington, she will also announce new funding from President Biden’s Investing in America agenda for drought resilience across the West.

Through President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, the Interior Department is stewarding an overall $2 billion in new investments to put people to work restoring our nation’s lands and waters, including major investments in our nation’s rivers to restore fish passage. The Investing in America agenda also represents the largest investment in climate resilience in the nation’s history and is providing much-needed resources to enhance the resilience of Western communities to drought and climate change. Through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act, the Bureau of Reclamation is investing nearly $13 billion to repair aging water infrastructure systems, advance water conservation and reuse and safeguard the West in the wake of severe drought.
