Three Tribal Scholarship Share Their Experience From Raving NEXT 2025

The Raving NEXT: Indian Gaming Strategic Operations and Leadership Conference, held from January 28-30, 2025, at Pechanga Resort and Casino, brought together industry leaders and innovators to discuss the future of tribal gaming. As part of its ongoing commitment to fostering leadership and professional growth within tribal enterprises, Raving—a Native-owned business—awarded scholarships to three tribal members who are currently in a tribal development or training program: Timothy Williams, Ellen Wells, and Felisa Castillo.

The next Tribal Scholarship Program is open now for submissions for the upcoming Casino Marketing & Technology Conference and Host and Player Development Conference this July.

With 22 years of experience in the Indian gaming industry, Timothy Williams has held various roles spanning front-of-house operations, back-of-house logistics, and compliance with the Tribal Gaming Commission. 2. Separation of Duty—ensuring tribal leadership remains distinct from business operations.
  3. Advanced communication tools for handling difficult workplace situations.

Reflecting on his experience, Williams stated, “This conference was a huge stepping-stone for me. It reaffirmed that I am a leader and gave me the tools to bring back to my tribal casino. There is nothing like a great week of learning and earning, I have to say that the Raving NEXT was the best times I have had in working with Professional level people.”

One of the most impactful sessions for Wells focused on effective communication. She plans to apply these lessons to her future career, stating, “I will use these tools to enhance collaboration in my workplace and strengthen our tribe’s position in the industry.”

Felisa Castillo

The Impact of Raving NEXT

The Raving Tribal Scholarship and Mentorship Program ensures that future tribal leaders have a seat at the table. By attending the conference, Williams, Wells, and Castillo attended over two and a half days of interactive sessions, networked with industry experts, and strengthened their ability to drive positive change within their respective tribal enterprises.

Through initiatives like these, Raving continues to pave the way for the next generation of tribal leaders, ensuring the future of Indian gaming remains strong, competitive, and community-driven. Raving’s scholarship program has expanded to their Casino Marketing & Technology Conference and Host and Player Development Conference this July. Applications are now open.

Raving NEXT: Indian Gaming Strategic Operations and Leadership Conference will return February 3-5, 2026 to Pechanga Resort and Casino, Temecula, CA.
