WASHINGTON (September 14, 2022) — On Saturday, September 17, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland and Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks Shannon Estenoz will visit Ocmulgee Mound National Historical Park, which is hosting its 30th annual Ocmulgee Indigenous Celebration. During the event, Secretary Haaland will deliver remarks celebrating Indigenous culture, people and traditions, as well as highlighting the Interior Department’s efforts to strengthen Indian Country.

The celebration event, which is open to the public, will feature traditional cultural crafts, storytelling, programs, demonstrations, music, dance, craft shops, and food vendors. More information about the event can be found on the National Park Service’s website.

Since day one of the Biden-Harris administration, Secretary Haaland and the Interior Department have taken significant steps to empower Indigenous communities and ensure that Tribes have the support and resources they need to thrive. Historic investments from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act, as well as Secretary Haaland’s various initiatives to invest in and bring justice to Indigenous communities, have helped strengthen Indian Country for current and future generations.
